I am always on the lookout for good Korean Restaurants. Took Bae kee has always been on the top of my list here in Perth.

Recently they have opened a second chain called Took Bae kee 2. Been there a couple of times since they opened but was not really impressed with the food. Last night however was a totally mind changing experience for us, we noticed that their menu have changed quite abit and they have added more variety to choose from. We spent a good 15 minutes trying to decide what to order
I wanted to order EVERY SINGLE DISH on this page.

Sadly, only one of us were THAT hungry, so i said goodbye to the page and moved on to the less barbaric menu, and finally decided to order the homemade fried dumpling and Extra Spicy Pork Backbone Soup.
It was love at first sight when they presented us with not one, not two, nooot three, but SIX side dishes for each person, i squealled shamelessly with happiness.

(clockwise: Sweet lotus roots, Namul, Spicy pickled cucumber, Sweet fried tofu, Kimchee, Marinated wakame)
The photo above was from last year, now they only give us four side dishes that I wont complain about as other Korean Restaurants would only normally give one or two complimentary side dishes.

(Clockwise: Sweet soybean, Kimchee, Shredded nori sheets, Namul)
Their side dishes always changes, and they are always good, so far they make the best namul (marinated blanched beansprouts) i’ve ever had!
If four side dishes is not good enough for you, check this out. You can ask for top up for FREE. Yes, for FREE. FREE! Not one time, not two time, nooot three time, nooot fo… I dont know how many times you can ask for free top ups but so far ive had three rounds and they didnt charge me a single cent for it.
It didnt take too long until the entree is served, considering how busy they were that night.

(Pan fried beef & vegetable dumpling with soy dipping sauce $8)
The Handmade dumpling came out really hot, was crescent shaped and the skin is rather thick and chewy (compared to gyoza). Filling was meaty and tasty, you dont even need the dipping sauce. You can order either steamed or pan fried. I like mine pan fried as they always add more depth & flavour to it.
5 minutes later our main came out. It was HUGE. And. Smelled. Amazing!

We didnt attack it straight away, we pick and poke at it first trying to figure out the best way to eat it.
The most amazing thing happened, the meat.. they just fell of the bone! they were soooo tender with good amount of fat, not to mention that amazing melt-in-your-mouth soft joints just what you expect out of a good ribs. You can also tell that it has been well marinated as it has a distinct flavor of its own and the spicy soup is what binded everything together.
I was so stunned by the porkgasm it gave me that i didnt notice it has rice cakes and soft kimchee in it. My sister cant stop ranting about how much she likes the soft kimchee. The soup itself was quite thick, compared to Kimchee Chigae or other spicy soups. I ate it by itself without rice as I dont think it needs any.
I fell in love with it. I’ve found it. I’ve finally found it! a good spicy Korean meaty soup. It is the kind of food that you will crave again and again.
Aftermath:

Also checkout this drink. It’s really refreshing! My sister’s fiance is totally hooked on it.

(Demisoda Apple $3)
The lovely lady who served us. Im a regular at Took Bae Kee (1st rest) and I’ve seen her around quite alot since she first started working there. She’s really nice.

The Verdict: Authentic Korean food, alot of vareties to choose from. Fast & friendly service. Highly recommended.

I thought this restaurant was just “okay”, the taste wasn’t something i was expecting, probably my expectations were higher considering the long queue in front of this restaurant, i don’t think i would ever return to this restaurant anymore. Any other recommendations other than this one ?
Hi Ken! Super late reply here, for authentic Korean Cuisine i always go to either Took Bae Kee 1&2 / Seoul BBQ / Cora BBQ
